Circumstances can knock us down. It may be hard to breathe or see a way out. We may feel like we are drowning in the unfairness and pain of it all.
I remember the deep feeling of hopelessness. My doctor told me I wouldn’t get better. Amid the pain and uncertainty of it all, I felt completely hopeless and defeated.
I went home that day with a dark cloud over my head. The pain was so bad I couldn’t sleep. I was throwing up because of it. I was in complete misery, and the thought of not getting better was more than I could handle.
As I lay in the bed, with the covers pulled over my head and my tears soaking my pillow, I sought the Lord. I asked for a second opinion, a miracle, something to help me.
The road to recovery was hard. There were days I wanted to quit and days when I questioned whether I was making any progress at all. Looking back now, I can see I fought for my life. Regardless of what they told me, I looked to the Lord, the author and finisher of my faith. And He helped me.
He told me what to do and who to see. When the enemy bombarded me with fear, God strengthened my faith. It was during the darkest time of my life that I got to truly know the Lord. Not as a character in the Bible, but as my Savior.
While I would never want to repeat this particular battle, I also wouldn’t take anything for it.
God revealed Himself to me in the darkness, in the pain, and in the deepest valleys I had ever experienced. Some nights, He held me as I suffered. His presence comforted me.
Sweet friend, if you are going through something heartwrenching, I urge you to seek the Lord. He has what you need to get through the difficult moments. While He might not change the circumstances, He will help you to endure them. He will walk you through it all.
Isaiah 43:2 KJV
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
