What If You Did It With Love?

Do you ever wake up in a bad mood?

Sometimes, as soon as my eyes open in the mornings, negative thoughts bombard me. In a sleepy state, it can all seem overwhelming, leading to a negative thought spiral. The enemy hits us hard while he has our attention.

When we focus on him and listen to his words long enough, he will have us complaining about our blessings.

Right now, our lives are abundantly blessed, but if we look at them through a lens of negativity and doom and gloom, we won’t be able to see the good. We will view our blessings as burdens and turn them into heartaches.

Then, we start living a have-to life. We repeatedly think I have to do certain things. Which leaves us feeling overwhelmed and burdened. But if we change one word, it changes how we feel. Change the word have to get and see if it changes how you feel.

Lots of things in our lives are a privilege, but we turn them into a chore. The moment we turn it into something we have to do, we lose the perspective on it. Our feelings follow our thoughts, so we do it out of obligation and resistance rather than out of love.

I used to dislike most parts of my life. I did what had to be done, but I didn’t enjoy it. I moved through my days complaining about my blessings.

For example, I didn’t like to cook. So, I did it with bad thoughts and resistance. But one day, God gave me a thought to ponder. What if I did it with love? What would happen then?

The next day, I thought about my family and how I was blessed to have them in my life. I thought about the joy on their faces as they enjoyed the meal. And I cooked everything with love and the anticipation of their joy.

It changed everything.

Their joy of having a favorite meal blessed me. The conversation around the table was wonderful. And we all walked away fuller than we had been in a long time. More than our bellies, our hearts were full of joy and love.

I took that experience and used it on other things. I started cleaning and doing laundry with love. As I cleaned, I thanked God for a home to clean and for the little ones to clean up after. I folded their clothes with love, and I stopped hating doing laundry.

Changing my thought process changed me.

We can walk around looking for something to complain about, or we can live in a beautiful state of gratitude, always looking for the next blessing. The enemy wants to steal our lives while we are still living. He wants us to be miserable, while we are abundantly blessed.

However, we can flip the gratitude switch and start looking for our blessings. When we find one, we can praise the Lord for His goodness.

Complaining keeps our focus on the problem, while gratitude keeps our focus on God.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 King James Version

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
