Truth That Anchors the Soul

Sometimes, our situation can seem hopeless, especially when we focus on our heartaches and magnify them. Our minds can take something small and turn it into something big. Every thought that comes to our mind is not the truth. In fact, most of them are lies.

One of the reasons the enemy is so effective against us is that he mixes a little truth with lies. He knows how to work through our emotions. Fear is powerful, so he tries to make us feel fearful. When we are afraid, we react with fear instead of faith.

For years, I lived deeply in my emotions. (I still struggle with this.) I went by how things made me feel instead of seeking the actual truth of the situation. Honestly, I didn’t realize there was a difference. If someone or a situation made me feel that I wasn’t good enough, I accepted that feeling as the truth and thought I was unworthy. When I really examined the feeling and searched for the truth, I discovered that I am worthy through God. My worth is not based on my outward appearance, bank account, number of friends, weight, or career. It is based on God’s love for me. He died for me, and that makes me worthy through Him. The day I accepted His gift of salvation, I became a child of the King.

I am learning to stop amid my struggle and look for the truth. The enemy always paints me a picture of hopelessness. Instead of believing him, I should look to God’s word and ask myself: What does God say about my situation?

Usually, when I’m hurting the most, it is because I got caught up in the lies. When I look into the future in a fearful state, all I can see is fear and heartache. However, looking with an eye of faith, I can see God. God is all-powerful. He knows my situation and how to handle every problem I encounter. In all reality, He already knows what will happen tomorrow. My Shepherd is the God who is all-wise and loves me enough to send His only begotten Son to die for me.

Proverbs 3:4-5 (KJV)
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

The truth is that God loves me unconditionally. He wants me to trust Him to take care of my troubles. When I keep my eyes on the Lord and seek Him in all things, He will help me. My God can take my heartaches and turn them into blessings. Therefore, I want to walk by faith. Today, I don’t have the strength to fight tomorrow’s battles. I only have enough for today. When I focus on today, and the moment I am right now, I realize I have everything I need. God will always give me what I need when I need it.

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
