God is with us in the battle

One of the enemy’s greatest weapons against us is fear. Throughout history, the enemy has tried to use fear to control God’s people. We see this in the book of Daniel in the Bible. Nebuchadnezzar, the king, made a golden image that He wanted everyone to worship. Those who refused to worship his creation at the appropriate time would be cast into a fiery furnace.

In a display of unwavering faith, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego chose not to heed the king’s orders, bow before his image, or worship his gods. They were fully aware of the consequences of their defiance, yet they stood firm in their belief in the Almighty.

Daniel 3:17-18 KJV

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Sweet friends, we are all faced with these types of decisions occasionally. The beauty is that we get to decide what we will do. We get to decide who we will follow. Will we follow along with the laws that contradict the Word of God, or will we listen to the voice of the Lord, which guides us towards righteousness and truth?

It can be hard to stand up for our beliefs if the price is high. None of us willingly wants to go into the fire. But God will go in with us.

Daniel 3:25 KJV

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

If we stand for God, He will take care of us. But if we stand with the enemy, the consequences of standing against the Lord might be greater than we can stand. I looked over a part of the scripture for a long time. The ones who werecommanded to cast the men into the fire were slew by the fire. Therefore, we need to be cautious and vigilant about whose orders we follow, discerning between the voice of the Lord and the voice of the enemy.

The story of Daniel is also a beautiful illustration of obedience to God, regardless of the cost. The scripture states that the king preferred Daniel over presidents and princes because he had an excellent spirit. They didn’t like him being above them, so they tried to find fault in him.

They wanted to take away his power with God, so they got the king to sign a decree that no man could pray for 30 days. No doubt they wanted to ruin his excellent spirit. But Daniel ignored the laws that stood in his way of serving God. He prayed anyway.

And his punishment was to be cast in the Lion’s Den. God intervened and closed the mouth of the lions. They did not hurt Daniel at all. But those who had caused him trouble were cast into the lion’s den and their families. While I will spare you the gruesome details, just know they didn’t have the same favor with God.

If we stand with God, we will have favor. However, if we stand against Him, we will suffer severe consequences. I ask God for guidance when things don’t seem right and I’m unsure of what to do. The word and spirit of God will confirm my doubts and show me the truth, but we have to be open to it.

When I face tough challenges, I remember these scriptures and how God has helped so many before me. I know my story will be the same. My God will deliver me from the hands of those trying to cause me harm as well.
