Finding God in the Darkness: A Personal Journey

Who is God to you?

Sometimes, we need to pause and define God in our lives. The world has a definition of God, and our family and friends might have a different description. But when it all comes down to it, who is God to you?
Do you know Him? Do you have your description of Him, or do you allow others to define Him for you?

For a long time, I allowed others to define God for me. He was an authority figure and someone I feared. I imagined Him as someone who was very strict and disgusted by my sins. Therefore, I worshipped Him out of obligation because it seemed like the right thing to do.

Then, one day, I felt like I had hit rock bottom. It felt as if I didn’t have a friend in the world. So, I would go out on my deck at night, cry, and pray. It was there, in the darkest time of my life, that I got to know God.

He sat with me while I cried and encouraged me. Our nightly conversations became the highlight of my day. He took the lies the enemy had told me and showed me the truth. Every night that I opened my back door and went outside, He showed up to be with me.

During that time, He became my best friend and my loving Father. God was my strength when I was weak. When I needed Him the most, He was there for me. And I’m so thankful to know God and to be loved by Him.

If you enjoyed this, please share it with your family and friends.
