Daily Time with God: Why It Matters and How to Start

It takes more than just going to church on Sunday.

During one of my most challenging, stressful times, I struggled to give God even a few hours of my time on Sunday. I usually arrived at church frazzled and overwhelmed, and I often showed up without anything to offer.

I didn’t understand then that my soul desired a relationship with God.

To enter a real relationship with God, we must desire to know more about Him and take the time every day to learn and be with Him. As much as it pains me to admit, I treated God like someone who was just supposed to do things for me. If I was in trouble, I prayed. Otherwise, I didn’t have time.

If I read my Bible, I was searching for comfort, not because I wanted to know more about my Lord. It was all about me. And what I wanted God to do for me.

For many years, I didn’t have a relationship with God, and my soul suffered.

Our souls need to connect with God. We need the peace, strength, courage, etc., that only He can give us. Our deepest needs do not come from the things of the world. They come from God.

Developing a daily morning routine changed my life. It helped me know God more profoundly and meaningfully. I love meeting with Him each morning. When I show up with a desire to spend time with Him and learn, He shows up to help me.

Spending time with Him each morning is my favorite way to start my day. God knows what I need and what will happen. And when I sit with Him, He prepares me.

God’s word and divine presence give me peace, unlike anything else. When my soul connects to God, nothing else really matters. God restores me and supplies my every need. Sometimes, we have the best conversations. And I always feel better after spending time with Him.

Sweet friend, if you desire God to sit with you and tell you what to do, make it a daily practice to make time for Him. God doesn’t speak over the noise of the world. He doesn’t chase us as we are constantly going. But if we make time and prepare our hearts to talk to Him, God will visit with us.
